Housing Takes a Toll on Crime Fighters

Share

Re “The FBI’s Least Wanted,” July 23: The FBI agents who struggle against high housing costs illustrate a bigger problem. Why is housing so expensive anyway? I suspect it’s partly the ever-popular home mortgage interest deduction.

The more money you make, the larger the portion of your housing costs gets subsidized by the government. It’s welfare for the rich. It encourages developers to build more expensive homes, which leads to a shortage of affordable housing. I’ve felt for a long time that we need to rethink this deduction.

Am I supposed to feel sorry for the FBI agents? They have an above-average salary, great benefits, a pension plan and a job. I suggest our lawmakers place the agents at the borders. It is rampant immigration that is creating the housing shortage and overcrowded roadways.
