Boeing Closer to Signing 767 Deal

Boeing Co.’s $17.2-billion proposal to lease 767s to the Air Force for use as aerial tankers was approved by the third of four congressional panels needed for a signed contract.
Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-El Cajon), chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, authorized the lease, the panel said. Only the Senate Armed Services Committee’s approval is needed. It plans a hearing on the proposal in early September.
Chicago-based Boeing views the 100-aircraft lease deal as key to rebuilding revenue as its commercial jetliner business declines. About $5.1 billion, or 30%, of the $17.2-billion deal would flow to Boeing, with the remainder going to subcontractors.
Boeing shares rose 9 cents to close at $32.77 on the NYSE.
