Court Again OKs Ex-Dictator’s Candidacy

From Times Wire Reports

Guatemala’s highest court revoked a lower court’s temporary injunction, again clearing the way for former dictator Efrain Rios Montt to run for president.

A constitutional ban on former coup leaders kept Rios Montt -- who had seized power in 1982 -- out of two previous presidential runs. But this year, the country’s highest court approved his candidacy. That decision was appealed, and violent protests followed last week’s temporary injunction.
