Update -- Sacramento is expected to be one of the Sparks’ main challengers in the Western Conference, and in time that may happen. But the Monarchs slid back to .500 after Tuesday’s loss to Seattle. Yolanda Griffith (19.3 points, 9.8 rebounds) looks completely recovered from the bulging disk in her neck that limited her to 17 games last year. Edna Campbell (breast cancer) and Tichia Penicheiro (shoulder) are also in good health. Among the Monarchs’ standout rookies, Kara Lawson is averaging 15.3 minutes off the bench. But center Chantelle Anderson is still slowed by off-season foot surgery, and has scored only one basket in two games.
