Gunmen Reportedly Kidnap U.N. Observers

Unidentified gunmen kidnapped two Germans and a Dane monitoring the border between Georgia and separatist Abkhazia for the United Nations, a Georgian official said.
Abkhazia declared itself a state in 1993, but no country recognizes it. The observers’ Georgian interpreter was also kidnapped, the U.N. said in New York. It said the four were able to report back by radio that they were unharmed.
