Surgical chitchat
Your article “In Surgery and Awake” (June 2) certainly caught my eye. On March 20, I broke my hip. The next day I went into surgery and part way through I regained consciousness.
To say I was astonished is an understatement. I couldn’t decide whether to let them know I was awake or wait and see what happened. I decided on the latter and listened to the conversations around me while the tinging, pulling and tugging went on.
Later when I told the surgeon, he said I should have joined the conversation.
