Reality-show star loses job with law firm

A Texas lawyer who is the star of NBC’s 2-week-old unscripted dating series, “For Love or Money,” has been let go by a law firm he had worked for following reports that he had been expelled from a military program for drunkenly groping a female Navy officer.

Sanjay S. Mathur, head of the Texas-based Mathur Law Offices, released a statement Wednesday saying he was alarmed by the brewing controversy surrounding Rob Campos, who worked at the firm as an independent contractor. He said he also was troubled by Campos’ behavior on last Monday’s episode, where he engaged in suggestive behavior with some of the female contestants.

“Taking the two events together, we find that it is in the best interest of this firm to disassociate our relationship with Mr. Campos,” Mathur said. “Since Mr. Campos has never been a formal ‘employee’ of this firm, the firm simply will cease any additional work and we have asked him to vacate his office space.”

A Web site called the Smoking Gun claimed that while he was in a military judges training program in Rhode Island in 1999, Campos visited a female acquaintance late one night and grabbed her breasts. He was expelled from the training program.

In a statement earlier this week, Campos acknowledged having behaved inappropriately and apologized to NBC for not disclosing the incident during the casting process. He could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

The series already has completed production and will continue airing on Monday nights, the network said.
