Liberian Peace Talks Begin

Liberian peace talks got underway in Akosombo, Ghana, as Liberian President Charles Taylor warned that there could be no end to the bloodshed unless a U.N.-backed war crimes court dropped an indictment against him.
West African mediators have secured a truce between Taylor and rebels who punched into the capital, Monrovia, last weekend. Taylor is accused of being a prime mover behind fighting in neighboring Sierra Leone that was marked by amputations, gang rapes and child conscription.
