ASEAN Urges Myanmar Regime to Free Suu Kyi

In a rare intrusion into the internal affairs of a member, the Assn. of Southeast Asian Nations urged Myanmar’s military government to free democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
During an annual meeting in Cambodia, nine foreign ministers of the 10-nation ASEAN told their Myanmar counterpart, Win Aung, that they want Suu Kyi released as soon as possible, ASEAN Secretary-General Ong Keng Yong said.
Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace laureate, was detained after May 30 violence in northern Myanmar.
