The Air Force said it would award a small rocket launch contract late this month or early next month, despite ongoing investigations into Boeing Co.’s alleged misuse of a competitor’s documents during initial bidding for the multibillion-dollar program. Air Force Undersecretary Peter Teets said the military urgently needed to get one National Reconnaissance Office satellite into space by mid-2005.

He had no comment on the Justice Department criminal probe into Boeing’s alleged misuse of Lockheed Martin Corp. documents or a separate Air Force inquiry.
