From Staff and Wire Reports

State and federal agriculture officials have begun allowing growers to harvest Hass avocados inside an area quarantined for Mexican fruit flies.

Under the agreement announced Monday, growers must clear their orchard floors of any fallen fruit, which must then be transported in covered bins from the grove to the packing house.

Inspectors will cut open 100 fruit per vehicle-load harvested to check for fruit fry larvae.
