A plan to build a $190-million high-security infectious diseases lab at UC Davis has made it to the final round of review by the National Institutes of Health.

The university said Monday it is now one of four institutions in the nation still in the running for federal funds to build a so-called “hot lab.” Institutions in New York, Chicago and Texas have also advanced to the final round.

A decision will be announced in September.
