Clear Channel, program director reach agreement

After a contract impasse had Jhani Kaye poised to leave the stations he’s led for two decades, he reached an agreement with his bosses at Clear Channel Communications, which owns KOST-FM (103.5), KBIG-FM (104.3) and six other L.A.-area stations.

Kaye will remain the company’s director of adult-contemporary programming in Los Angeles, but he’ll hand off his former duties as station manager at KOST and KBIG to Craig Rossi, the stations’ former sales director.

Kaye said the new multi-year arrangement lets him focus on the station’s long-term sound and vision, and allows him to work as a consultant for stations elsewhere in the country.

Meanwhile, KKBT-FM (100.3) “The Beat” has fired two of its air personalities: afternoon drive-time DJ Adimu Colon and “community angel” Dominique DiPrima.

DiPrima was the station’s point person on community outreach and had been part of Steve Harvey’s morning show until she was cut back to three-minute phoned-in reports.

Station general manager Sue Freund said DiPrima was let go in a cost-cutting move, and said regarding Colon: “We want the ratings to improve in afternoon drive.” Rap artist Kurupt has been filling in as a guest DJ, and Freund said she hopes to have a permanent replacement in about six weeks.
