Some Lessons Learned

Share

So elementary schools’ test scores are up while secondary test scores are not (“Schools Show New Progress,” editorial, Feb. 26). Is there any wonder why?

Elementary schools are in their fourth year of class-size reduction in the K-3 grade levels. In that time, class sizes in the secondary schools have increased. In some schools, academic classes hover around 40 to 45 per classroom. Now tell me, what type of learning do you believe goes on in a class that size? Lower the class sizes at the secondary level to 20, as in K-3, and you will see a marked improvement.
