An Art Theft From a Jail? You Don’t Say
A framed sketch by Salvador Dali has been swiped from a locked display case in the men’s jail at Rikers Island and replaced with a copy, New York authorities said. Dali drew the sketch, which depicts Jesus Christ on the cross, in 1965 as a favor to the Correction Department commissioner. It was displayed in the jail’s dining room for 16 years before being moved to the lobby.
On Saturday, workers reported it missing. They made the discovery after noticing that the sketch in the case looked strangely bright and too new.
