The first of eight people charged in the fatal beatings of two men after a traffic accident was sentenced Tuesday to four years in prison.

Jurors last month acquitted Lamont Motes, 20, of first-degree murder, but convicted him of mob action and battery.

On Tuesday, a judge denied Motes’ request for probation but also declined to give him the maximum penalty of five years.

Motes was part of an angry mob that attacked Jack Moore, 62, and Anthony Stuckey, 49, after their rental van jumped a curb on July 30 and struck several women, one of whom died.

Seven other men await trial on murder and mob action charges.
