Not everyone who is fitness-minded is gym-inclined -- many can’t afford it, others prefer the great outdoors, and some are intimidated by the hard bodies and equipment. That’s why L.A.-based personal trainer Jon Gilman decided to create a whole-body fitness program for the home.

Funnctional Gym: The program incorporates a platform, stability ball, balance disk and resistance tubes designed to work practically every muscle group, from the chest to biceps, triceps, abdominals, quadriceps, hamstrings and glutes. The kit also comes with a video, instructions and two air pumps.

Gilman’s goal was to develop a system that allows users to work out with the ball or disk, which strengthens core (trunk) muscles, along with the resistance tubes.

The combination increases the number of possible exercises while incorporating more muscle groups. “It’s applicable to daily life,” Gilman says. “When you move you don’t just use one muscle group, you use a system of muscles.”

Price: $100, available in April. www.funnctional.com or (866) FUNNGYM.
