Fox to Have Emergency Surgery on His Spine

Mexican President Vicente Fox was admitted to the hospital for urgent back surgery after a medical team detected a herniated disk in his spine. The problem was causing severe pain in his left leg and was affecting his ability to walk.
The surgery is to take place at 8 a.m. today. It is expected to last about three hours, doctors said.
Interior Secretary Santiago Creel will oversee national affairs during the operation, a presidential spokesman said.
