Afghanistan will hand over all 900 remaining Pakistani prisoners captured in the U.S.-led war that ousted the Taliban in 2001, Pakistan’s ambassador said.
“This is a welcome decision although it has come late in the day,” Ambassador Rustam Shah Mohmand said in Kabul. “We believe this will pave the way for ... normalizing and improving relations with Afghanistan.”
Mohmand said Pakistani authorities will screen the men and probably release them. Afghan presidential spokesman Sayed Fazel Akbar said the process may begin next week.
