Alleged Flight by U.S. Spy Plane Protested
From Times Wire Reports
Russia delivered a protest to the U.S. Embassy, saying an American spy plane flew near Russia’s border with neighboring Georgia. Two fighters were scrambled to track the U-2 as it flew 12 to 19 miles from the border, Russian media quoted the Defense Ministry as saying.
The Russian Foreign Ministry said the flight followed two earlier incidents on March 7 and Feb. 27. The Foreign Ministry said the flights “provoke additional tension in a region that is sensitive from the viewpoint of Russia’s security interests.”
