An anonymous benefactor has donated approximately $19.5 million to London’s Tate Gallery so the museum can purchase Sir Joshua Reynolds’ “Portrait of Omai” and keep the work in the United Kingdom. The work is one of the most expensive paintings ever sold in the U.K.
