Rebel Mines Kill 11Soldiers Near Village

From Times Wire Reports — Rebel land mines killed 11 soldiers near the birthplace of Nobel laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez, a village that has thus far seen little bloodshed in Colombia’s protracted guerrilla insurgency. Garcia Marquez was born in Aracataca, the model for the fantastical town of Macondo in “One Hundred Years of Solitude,” his most famous novel.
