Refinancing Helps Bolster Spending

More Americans raised cash by refinancing their home loans in the first quarter, helping to bolster consumer spending, according to a survey by Freddie Mac.
In the first three months of the year, 43% of refinanced loans were for amounts 105% or higher than the original mortgage, compared with 60% a year earlier, said Freddie Mac.
