20 in Custody After a U.S. Raid in Tikrit
From Times Wire Reports
U.S. soldiers raided a dozen buildings in Saddam Hussein’s hometown of Tikrit and took about 20 people into custody, including a suspected local Baath Party leader. One Iraqi was killed when he tried to take a rifle from a soldier, an officer said.
Six Bradley fighting vehicles sealed off a neighborhood. Soldiers broke down gates and doors, forced their way inside and emerged with the blindfolded suspects, whose hands were tied. It was unclear how many would be kept in custody.
