From Times Wire Reports

Transport workers extended a crippling strike into a second day, stranding many Parisians at bus and subway stops in a dispute over planned pension revisions.

Union leaders, who had not announced the strike extension, entered a fresh round of talks with ministers of the center-right government.

The pension proposals would extend the number of years workers must contribute to the system to draw a full pension. Officials have said there is no alternative if the system is to survive.
