Re “L.A. Reaches Compromise on Special Ed,” May 13: Increase the size of my class. Have me spend what amounts to more than a month of the school year not teaching but testing my students, for the sake of maintaining district statistics. Disregard any experience I have as a professional or the actual needs of my disadvantaged, limited-English students by forcing me to adhere to scripted, one-size-fits-all reading and math programs. Now add in special needs and mentally retarded students to the mix. Funny, I thought I got into this profession to actually teach!
