Agilent Has Narrower Quarterly Loss

Agilent Technologies Inc. said its quarterly loss narrowed from a year earlier as it cut costs.

The loss was $146 million, or 31 cents a share, compared with $253 million, or 55 cents, a year ago for its second quarter, Agilent said. Sales rose less than 1% to $1.47 billion.

Agilent said it cut costs by $35 million in the quarter after slashing about 2,500 jobs.

Shares of Palo Alto-based Agilent fell $1 to $15.51 on the NYSE. They rose 59 cents to $16.10 in extended trading after the release.
