Gartner Cuts Forecast for Global Chip Sales
From Reuters
Market research firm Gartner Inc. slightly lowered its 2003 growth forecast for global microchip sales, saying there were no clear signs of a recovery for the industry.
Global semiconductor sales are forecast to grow 8.3% with sales of $168 billion this year, said Gartner, whose previous forecast was for 8.9% growth.
In 2002, worldwide chip sales grew 1.3% to $152 billion, according to Gartner and the Semiconductor Industry Assn.
Businesses are not confident enough about the economy to begin replacing old computers, Gartner said.
