Schuller’s Definition of Greed Is Found Wanting

Share

The Rev. Robert Schuller’s $40-million International Center for Possibility Thinking (May 17) is truly magnificent, as is his Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove. However, I am appalled by his statement describing the 40 homeowners he ousted to make way for it.

“Each of them knew I wanted their home, and none of them were immune to greed.” No one should have to put a price on a house in which a family has been raised or a husband and wife have grown old together unless the owner wants to move. Greed -- I think not. (My daughter’s widowed mother-in-law’s home was one of the last to go.)

The homeowners who had to give up their homes and disrupt their lives were not “immune to greed.” Isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black?
