President Pardons 16 Separatists
From Times Wire Reports
Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh pardoned 16 leaders of a 1994 separatist rebellion and called on them to return home.
The group includes former Vice President Ali Salem Baidh, who led a bid to form a breakaway state in Yemen’s civil war, and Haidar Abu Bakr Attas, Baidh’s prime minister. The separatists, who fled after the war, were sentenced to death in absentia in 1998.
