Military Bracing for Long Campaign in Aceh
From Times Wire Reports
Indonesian forces clashed with separatist rebels in Aceh province, as the military said it was digging in for a campaign of up to six months.
“This war definitely can’t be won in weeks like the U.S. did in Iraq. The rebels have blended in in this guerrilla war,” said Lt. Col. Achmad Yani Basuki.
The military said it had killed 15 fighters of the Free Aceh Movement since the offensive began Monday; rebel sources estimated 20 civilians had died. The reports could not be verified.
