The U.S. doctor believed to have developed SARS symptoms while investigating the disease in Taiwan is recovering in Atlanta, state health officials said.

Dr. Chesley L. Richards Jr., an infection control expert with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, arrived in Atlanta late Friday and was evaluated at a hospital.

Georgia health officials classified Richards as the state’s eighth suspected case of the respiratory illness.
