Nuclear Consortium May Suspend Project

The consortium in charge of building light-water nuclear reactors for North Korea postponed a decision on the project’s future but said it would make an announcement by Nov. 21.
The Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization’s executive board meeting in New York discussed a one-year suspension of construction. The U.S. has wanted to cancel the project because of Pyongyang’s nuclear weapons ambitions. But fellow member South Korea believes such a move would hurt efforts for a negotiated solution.
