Marrow Injection May Help After Heart Attack

From Times Wire Reports

Doctors can boost the heart’s pumping power after a heart attack by injecting bone marrow scavenged from the victim’s hip, a test has shown.

The idea, called cell therapy, is intended to strengthen the heart by reseeding it with cells taken from elsewhere in the patient’s body.

“We may be entering into a new era of heart therapy,” said Dr. Helmut Drexler.

Drexler and Dr. Kai Wollert presented the results from 60 patients at the annual scientific meeting of the American Heart Assn. in Orlando.
