Government Bans 3 Islamic Militant Groups
Pakistan slapped a new ban on three outlawed Islamic militant organizations that had regrouped under new names.
Banned were Tehreek-i-Islami Pakistan, a Shiite group; Millat-e-Islami, a Sunni group; and Khudam-ul-Islam, formerly known as Jaish-e-Mohammed. The first two have been accused of sectarian violence, and Khudam-ul-Islam of sending separatist rebels into the Indian-held portion of Kashmir.
Meanwhile, four members of another banned Islamic militant group, Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, were convicted and sentenced to death in Karachi for murdering a minority Shiite trader.
