Houston Schools Seen to Improve on Dropouts
Houston’s school district, which has been under criticism for underreporting dropout rates, is making improvements in how it trains its staff and tracks dropouts, a Texas Education Agency monitor said.
The state investigation into the district’s student-data collection came after a state lawmaker questioned claims by a few schools, including Sharpstown High School, that they had no dropouts.
In August, the district was given six months to improve its record-keeping on dropouts and clean house at Sharpstown, or face having a lower state rating.
