Anthony LaPaglia, who stars as the head of an FBI team of missing-persons investigators on the CBS series “Without a Trace,” and his wife, actress Gia Carides, have purchased a Brentwood home for close to its asking price of $5.8 million.

The traditional-style home has five bedrooms and 4 1/2 bathrooms in nearly 5,000 square feet. The house was built in 1941 but was recently updated.

It has an office, country kitchen, formal dining room and two guesthouses that include a maid’s quarters, gym-playroom and guest suite. The property, which also has a pool and lush landscaping, is gated.

LaPaglia, in his early 40s, was born in Australia and moved to New York City in the ‘80s. Since then, he has appeared in many TV series and performed a number of times on the New York City stage. He earned an Emmy in 2002 for his work as a guest actor on “Frasier” and has co-starred in such movies as “Dead Heat” (2002) with Kiefer Sutherland and “The Guys” (2002) with Sigourney Weaver. “The Guys” was inspired by the heroism of New York City firefighters during the World Trade Center attacks.

Carides, in her late 30s, is also a native of Australia. She gained attention playing the loud and pushy Liz in Baz Luhrmann’s film “Strictly Ballroom” (1992). Later, she appeared in the movies “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me” (1999) and “My Big Fat Greek Wedding” (2002), in which she played the scene-stealing role of cousin Nikki.

Richard Bartholomew of DBL, Beverly Hills, represented the buyers, and Myra Nourmand of Nourmand & Associates, Beverly Hills, had the listing, sources said.

‘A girl’ lands in West Hollywood

Deana Carter, a singer-songwriter from Tennessee, has purchased a West Hollywood home for about $600,000.

The Spanish bungalow, built in 1926, has two bedrooms and one bathroom in slightly more than 1,000 square feet. The house also has hardwood floors, central heat and air conditioning, a fireplace and a one-car garage.

Carter, who co-produced her album “I’m Just a Girl,” featuring such songs as “You and Tequila” and “Girls’ Night,” is the daughter of legendary guitarist Fred Carter Jr., known for providing the signature guitar work on Simon & Garfunkel’s classics “The Boxer” and “The Sound of Silence.”

Deana Carter, 37, released her first album, “Did I Shave My Legs for This?” with the hit single “Strawberry Wine” in 1996. Besides releasing subsequent albums, she contributed songs to two movie soundtracks: “Anastasia” (1997) and “Hope Floats” (1998).

Sonya Gibson of DBL, Sunset, represented Carter in her purchase; Jimmy Martinez, of the same office, had the listing.

Yahoo chief clicks in Bel-Air

Terry Semel, former co-chair of Warner Bros. who is now chief executive of Yahoo Inc., has purchased a home on about an acre in Bel-Air for $7.2 million, area Realtors say.

The house, built in 1927, has five bedrooms in slightly more than 7,000 square feet.

Semel owns a home on an adjacent property that is slightly larger and was built a few years later.

He also owns a lot on the other side of that house, where he built what appears to be a guesthouse in 1991.

Semel, 60, recently expanded his Malibu home in much the same way: He bought the lot next door to his newly built house there so he could add a screening room and a guesthouse.

The Beverly Hills house was on the market for the first time in 40 years. The walled Mediterranean-style villa, built in 1926, has four bedrooms and four bathrooms in about 5,000 square feet. It also has a den, an office, a breakfast area, dining and family rooms, a pool and city and canyon views.

Kurt Rappaport of Westside Estate Agency, Beverly Hills, had the listing, sources said.

Not making music in Los Feliz now

Composer-pianist Harold Budd and his wife, Ellen Wirth, have listed their home in the Franklin Hills area of Los Feliz at $579,000.

Budd, whose compositions prompted record producer Brian Eno to call him “a great abstract painter trapped in the body of a musician,” and his wife, director of operations at the UCLA Hammer Museum in Westwood, are selling so they can buy a home with a larger yard.

Their Los Feliz home has two bedrooms and 1 1/2 bathrooms. The house was built in 1947.

Budd, in his 60s, recently released his 23rd album, “La Bella Vista,” named for producer Daniel Lanois’ Silver Lake house, where the music was recorded.

Barry Sloane of Sotheby’s International Realty, Beverly Hills, has the listing.
