Brown Makes a Couple of Rookie Errors

For Dustin Brown, it has been an eventful few days in the life of a 19-year-old rookie in the NHL.

He suffered a sprained ankle Saturday in the first period after a jarring mid-ice collision, getting taken out by Blackhawk left wing Igor Radulov. Brown returned but eventually gave up, which gave him enough time to run an errand.

“When they took him out of the game, he had to run home and get his suit bag because he didn’t realize we were leaving [for Dallas] right after the game, being the young guy that he is,” King Coach Andy Murray said, smiling. “Maybe he was thinking of that when he said he couldn’t play anymore, that he’d be in trouble if he didn’t have his suit bag.”

That wasn’t his only moment of recent forgetfulness. Brown took off after practice last week, not remembering that he had a unit meeting to review video with his linemates, left wing Luc Robitaille and center Michael Cammalleri. Luckily, Murray is a patient sort.

“We had to make a call for him to come back,” Murray said. “He’s young. He goes through what we all go through.”
