Indian star faces criminal trial
Top Indian movie star Salman Khan was formally charged with 11 criminal counts in Bombay on Monday for a traffic accident last year that killed one man and injured three others.
The counts include causing death by negligence and driving under the influence of alcohol. He faces up to two years in jail if convicted. The trial begins Oct. 21.
Khan allegedly rammed his car into a group of people sleeping on a Bombay sidewalk in September 2002. The popular star, who often plays Sylvester Stallone-like roles in Indian films, said “not guilty” after the judge read the charges.
