Police Arrest 1,300 Hindu Activists

From Times Wire Reports

Police arrested more than 1,300 Hindu activists to prevent them from meeting near the site of a razed mosque.

The World Hindu Council has called a mass meeting this week in support of its demand to build a temple at the disputed site of the 16th century Babri mosque, which was torn down in 1992 by Hindu fundamentalists. The mosque’s destruction triggered a year of Hindu-Muslim violence.
