Workers, Illegal or Not, Are Denied Living Wage

Share

Re “Immigrant Wal-Mart Janitors Arrested,” Oct. 24: While the government rightly focuses its probe of Wal-Mart’s labor practices on company headquarters, a greater crime against society and human dignity goes undetected daily in Wal-Marts everywhere: that is the crime of the world’s largest company, as measured by revenue, paying employees an hourly wage so low that it does not constitute a living wage anywhere in the U.S. That is an outrage.

Rush Limbaugh is a drug addict. Bill Bennett is a compulsive gambler. Rabid foes of illegal immigration promote it through patronizing Wal-Mart. There is a God!

Finally! I hope these arrests foretell the beginning of strict enforcement of our immigration and labor laws. Either kick all of the illegals out and make them wait their “legal” turn to immigrate, pay them all a living wage or set up a legitimate “guest worker” program. There is a First World standard of living and a Third World standard. The current “race to the bottom line” vis-a-vis illegal immigration can only turn America into a Third World country of wage slaves.
