Where they are now: life after child stardom

Here’s an update on the former child stars of “Dickie Roberts.”

Leif Garrett: He had his share of well-publicized drug problems and was once the subject of VH1’s “Behind the Music.” Garrett recently toured with a band called F8 but decided to dissolve the group after four years. “There was too much politics,” he says. He has a song on the “Dickie Roberts” soundtrack and is going to direct a video for a friend’s band.

Danny Bonaduce: He had his own run-ins with the law due to substance abuse problems and an arrest in 1991 for allegedly beating up a transvestite prostitute. Married and the father of two young children, Bonaduce co-hosts the popular “Jamie and Danny Show” in the mornings on KYSR-FM (98.7), published his autobiography, “Random Acts of Badness,” in 2001, and was on the recently canceled syndicated talk show “The Other Half.” Bonaduce says there is another talk show in the offing for next year. He also appeared on Fox’s “Celebrity Boxing” duking it out with, and beating, Barry Williams. Bonaduce recently appeared as himself on an episode of the USA hit series “Monk.”

Barry Williams: After “The Brady Bunch” ended in 1974, he performed in solo concerts and appeared in musical theater productions of “Pippin,” “West Side Story,” “The Music Man” and “The Sound of Music.” He wrote a bestselling autobiography, “Growing Up Brady,” that was published in 1992. Married and the father of a 7-month-old son, he is preparing a nightclub revue to open later this month in Las Vegas at the Suncoast in which he’ll perform new and old songs and teach “Brady” dance steps to the audience.

Dustin Diamond: After appearing as the nerdy Screech on “Saved by the Bell” -- Tobey Maguire did a dead-on imitation of him a few years back on “Saturday Night Live” -- Diamond has been concentrating on stand-up comedy and music. He also participated in an installment of Fox’s “Celebrity Boxing,” winning his match with Ron Palillo of “Welcome Back, Kotter” fame, and appeared on an installment of E! Entertainment Television’s “Stardates.”

Corey Feldman: Feldman also ran into substance abuse problems, but like Garrett and Bonaduce, he has cleaned up his act. He appeared earlier this year on the WB reality series “The Surreal Life” and wed his girlfriend in the finale. (They were married by “Surreal Life” co-star Hammer.) Feldman and his band, Truth Moment, are cutting their second CD and Feldman has a song on the “Dickie Roberts” soundtrack. He’s set to direct and star in a movie, “Nightmare Carnival,” and will be seen in the upcoming Wes Craven movie “Cursed.”
