3 Hondurans Resisting Iraq Duty Face Trial
A human rights organization is expressing concern about three Honduran officers who face a court-martial, apparently for refusing to go to Iraq.
A military spokesman, Col. Rafael Moreno, confirmed Thursday that the officers “have been subjected to military justice for acts of indiscipline related to the trip to Iraq,” though he gave no details.
Andres Pavon, president of the independent Human Rights Committee, said his organization had received complaints from relatives of two lieutenant colonels and a major and was investigating. “They are trying soldiers for refusing to fight a war that is not theirs,” he said.
Honduras has sent 370 soldiers to join a multinational force in Iraq.
