U.S. Said to Be Slow in Tackling Detainee Issues
The U.S. is not moving fast enough to address problems revealed in a report documenting mistreatment of some of the hundreds of foreigners detained after the Sept. 11 attacks, Justice Department investigators said.
Glenn A. Fine, inspector general of the agency, also said probers have found additional evidence of “verbal and physical abuse” of some detainees at a facility in Brooklyn, N.Y.
In the analysis just released, Fine found that the Justice and Homeland Security departments had fully implemented only two of 21 recommendations made in the earlier report.
