If a candidate drops out of the recall election, what happens to his campaign funds?

Share

If a candidate withdraws from the race, his campaign account remains open until the end of the election cycle. During this time, the candidate can pass funds on to other campaigns or to nonprofit political groups.

After the election cycle, the recall campaign account must be closed. Any excess funds are usually transferred into a new account for future races. If the candidate doesn’t plan to run again, he can return money to individual donors or give it to other campaigns, political parties or registered charities.
