Transmeta Shares Rise on Chip Order From HP

Shares of chip maker Transmeta Corp., whose computer chips vie with Intel Corp.’s, rose 29% after the smaller company won an order from Hewlett-Packard Co. for semiconductors to be used in two computers.
Transmeta gained 55 cents to $2.46 on Nasdaq. The stock has more than doubled this year.
Hewlett-Packard will use two of Santa Clara, Calif.-based Transmeta’s Crusoe processors in simplified personal computers controlled by servers running the operating system software.
