Far-Right Party Falters at Ballot Box

Joerg Haider’s far-right party suffered another election setback, losing more than half its support in Upper Austria and Tyrol provincial polls. The elections were the first test since November’s national polls first saw a plunge in support for the anti-immigration Freedom Party in the wake of a leadership battle that split the organization.
With counting incomplete, the Freedom Party was projected to get between 8% and 9% of the vote in both provinces, placing it last among four parties.
