China, U.S. Among Leaders in Executions
From Times Wire Reports
China, Iran, the United States and Vietnam imposed the death penalty the most in 2003, accounting for 84% of known executions, Amnesty International said in an annual report detailed as the U.N. Human Rights Commission met in Geneva.
China was known to have executed at least 726, Iran 108, the United States 65 and Vietnam 64, according to the British-based Amnesty group.
China’s toll could be much higher because it controls information, Amnesty said.
