New York prosecutors asked a state judge to sequester jurors during deliberations at former Tyco International Ltd. General Counsel Mark Belnick’s criminal fraud trial, citing “recent events.”

State Supreme Court Justice Michael Obus, who also presided at the trial of L. Dennis Kozlowski and Mark Swartz, said it “may be necessary” to sequester jurors at the Belnick trial. The judge declared a mistrial in the Kozlowski-Swartz case.

The judge said at a hearing in New York that he would advise potential jurors that they may be secluded during part of the trial, which is scheduled to start next week and run for about a month. Belnick is accused of taking an unauthorized $12-million bonus and failing to disclose illegal transactions.
