Hunger and Democracy

Share

“Latin America Losing Faith in Democracy” (April 22) states that a study by the U.N. Development Program found that a majority of Latin Americans (most of them poor) would choose authoritarian rule if it eased poverty. This is not surprising, and I believe that a similar study among poor people in our country would yield similar results. When your children are hungry and/or homeless, getting food and shelter becomes the parent’s first priority.
